imo, he's kinda is simpy, but also he's trying to defend his mate from other male cats who want to fuck her.
he probably wants that foid cat to sire his kittens and he does not want her to sire kittens by another male cat.
and those male cats are willing to kill him to get to his mate.
our boy here is white knighting for his mate so he doesn't get cucked by another cat and so she can bare his offspring, not another cats.
