Is the shinigami realm just a metaphor for life?

For those who aren't familiar with the anime/manga Death note, the shinigami realm is a place where the Shinigami lay and rot. Nothing ever happens but time passing. I feel like that is a true metaphor for life. We just sit there a rot while hoping for something to happen.

I hadn’t considered that before. The shinigami there all just waste away watching their entertainment as though nothing matters. The do some shinigami’ing out of obligation rather than any intrinsic want. It’s kinda like the irl reality for a lot of us
