For a large part of my life, I had people telling me that philosophy is useless, and in a sense I think it is, since it does not produce material goods like work does, nor does it generate material wealth. However, I believe it is fundamentally important to cultivate philosophy as much as possible, because it is what truly makes you free. This includes studying the philosophy of your own ancestors as well as that of other cultures. I also believe that the most important thing is to develop a critical mindset, in order to analyze and understand it as deeply as possible. What do you think?

depends on how you view philosophy I guess.

if you view it as medicine for the mind then yes.
otherwise probably not.

just a lot of questions with very few answers.

maybe a better perspective if you want to approach philosophy is not how useful it'll be. I don't know though. I know nothing.

It is a good cope, but ultimately no. Viewing the world differently can not change the objective reality of your shit genetics

Aristotle wrote of this, but to give my answer, philosophy takes a different route, just as the priest does, as to the scientist. Poetry is beneficial in that it is designed in such a manner as to communicate information, whether in elegant or in a structured manner. The average person would say "get into poetry, if you want to starve", such a lowly minded person will not grasp even the simplest of truths if it was spoken to him.

The moderate position, is that you do not look at these matters unjustly, philosophy is in part how you live, the other how how you reason and come to conclusions, it is of the mind and seeks to ask questions in relation to reality and how we should engage within it. Is philosophy important? Yes, but do not give so much time to theory nor give on to demanding practice. Give things there just desserts and do not judge unjustly until you have by your own mind grasped it.
