It would make sense seeing as how he lied when he said light was like a friend to him. In truth he actually despised light.

It absolutely was. According to Ohba L is "slightly evil". While we're at it, I also don't believe either cared about "justice" at all. They both claimed too, but even from the start with Light, he just wanted to be "god of the new world" and with L he just wanted the credit for solving the case. Both of them basically saw it as a "game" they'd do anything to "win".

But to answer OP's question, L is certainly written as a stereotypical "quirky socially awkward autistic genius". Though all those autistic people who are vocal about how they see themselves in L are generally much closer to chris chan than L.
