Every second night I'm having a nightmare. Last few were about a war starting, me abusing my brother (for some reason), getting choked in my bed instead of getting up normally and even one about getting hacked on this forum and then having all my info available publicly. What I find weird is that I used to be really affected by nightmares, but nowadays they don't even phase me. I can experience getting choked in a realistic dream, wake up and go about my life normally without even a minute of thinking about it. Am I a TOUGH person?
Are you having dreams every day as well? If so, then this is pretty aligned with my experiences as well – Although as of late I’ve been dreaming a little less, and forgetting the dreams I do have sooner.
It sounds like most of these are caused by external stimuli, the first being news feeds about wars and rumors of wars, the second I couldn’t comment on aside from the obvious subconscious feelings you may or may not have towards your brother, such as envy, and the third – What do you mean by being choked? As in you were choking on your own, or perhaps by the bed like the bedsheets wrapping around your throat, or someone else choking you on the bed?
And for the last, that’s definitely a sentiment that I imagine most people have about this site, including myself – Although one could easily just change that into fitting into anything about one’s most intimate and private thoughts and habits.
And as for yourself becoming less affected by your dreams, you may be simply becoming more numb and indifferent in general, as well as the fact that you are becoming desensitized in general to the nightmares you are having – Although if you’re really not that scared or affected, would it still be considered or properly classified as a nightmare?
And as for you being a “tough” person, I would merely describe this as more mental resiliency than anything else. Not to diminish or demean you or any of your experiences in any way, but I don’t think it’s quite the same as being unfazed in the sense of being hardened by life, but simply growing more distant and apart from it – But I could simply be projecting here and pulling from my own experiences instead of accurately describing what you’re experiencing.
If you’re interested, I think it might be helpful or simply fun to transcribe your dreams to the best of your recollection when you wake up, so you can reflect on what the dream could possibly mean or simply dissect the narrative within.
I don’t know if all dreams (or any) really have a “meaning” per se, in the sense of a grand plan, but I do think that they do hold some deeper inner truth from our subconscious about what we’re thinking and feeling and who we really are.
And if nothing else, it can be fun and interesting to simply look back on them and reexperience them as if they were a mini-movie being played within our heads, constructed from the fabrics of our own subconscious mind.
Although perhaps I’m completely off the mark and cuff here, and if so, I apologize. Maybe I’m making a mountain out of a mole hill, but I do find dreams personally interesting from my own experiences and on their own in general, which is why I wrote in this manner.
