Serious Is it me or Commodus is the real good guy in Gladiator?

I mean think about it. The guy is treated like SHIT by his father since he's a small child. The father pretends like he was "never a moral man" and that's why he hates him, sounds like it's probably the other way around tbh.

He has no one, has never been loved. You can often tell all he wants is to be loved, and not even being the emperor of Rome can fix that. He tries so hard to be nice to the child, to his sister, to even trust his sister when she's clearly hostile, to the people of Rome as a whole... To no avail.

Meanwhile the main guy, Maximus if I remember right, his life is easy. He's not tortured, not frustrated, which other people perceives as him being "noble" or "humble". He's loved by Commodus' sister and in a sexual way, by his father, and liked by everyone tbh. He's a stereotypical terachad as per the movie plot, regardless of the actor's looks, and the guy the audience is supposed to like.

This movie is a classic I've watched a few times, and the only time I rooted for Maximus was as a child. All other times I rooted for Commodus tbh. He's just, not only a lot like us, but also just a more real character who isn't perfect.

His only flaw was his ego, I would never have been so confident as to fight such a man after only merely stabbing him in the side, the dosage of poison I would have used would have been much stronger and the poison would not be to kill, but to render his limbs useless, and kill him when he's immobile, I'd have made it a battle of attrition and keep my distance, and when I see him getting slowed down begin kiting him as his reflexes were diminished

But of course as per cliche writing, the "bad guy" must be over confident and get in close to the hero, and monolougue, show off, etc, I mean "bad guys" are never smart and not egotistical, that's a trait of evil and/or unattractive men (as far as society is concerned)

I'd say he did that because he had nothing to lose anyway. He did the stabbing because he wasn't THAT stupid, but he kinda wanted it to boil down to one fight that'd settle everything. To actually mog him and void all the humiliations, if you will. Commodus had nothing to lose, he was emperor but he wasn't loved, that's why I'd say. Like if you could fight a chad but if you won you'd have Chad's life, wouldn't you give it a try? It's like the rope but with a chance of getting everything you want. Also bear in mind as the emperor he was actually a very good fighter too, he was trained by the best while growing up, it wasn't a stretch to think he had a chance. So it wasn't that bad writing.

Of course not, but characters are always written like this so that the good guy could win, and it always ends up painting the picture that its their ego that killed them, because had they not gloated, or drifted into monolougue, etc they would have won, that's what I hate about these kinds of movie scenes, for once can't the antagonist be actually ruthless and cunning

Commodus was a very moral man.

His father Marcus Aurelius was a piece of shit both in the movie (and also historically, but that's irrelevant here since this movie is not really historically accurate).

Maximus was cool but he was basically just a boring Chad. An NPC.

Lucilla was a malicious manipulative woman who probably also manipulated her father that her brother wasn't good enough for emperor. Remember when Marcus Aurelius said to her "if only you were born as a man, what a great emperor you would be" JFL at this clown.

The senators were scum and Commodus was right to plan to limit their powers.

Commodus gave to the people epic gladiator games. Marcus Aurelius didn't give them anything and fought stupid wars in Germania.

This is funny because I was just re-watching Gladiator the other night. I wouldn't call Commodus "the good guy" but I definitely rooted for him over Maximus. Maximus was just the typical soulless gigachad phony "hero" that Hollywood always tries to push on us. There's no logical reason for any sub-8 male to root for him. Foids root for him because they want to fuck him, and Chads can root for their fellow "chad bro," but all the normtard and bluepilled ugly guys who root for that kind of character are low IQ cucks who can't see how they're being emotionally manipulated.

Commodus was always the guy who was never good enough, the guy who was never going to be as good as Maximus - and none of that was Commodus' fault. It was just the traits they were born with, completely out of their control. That's why anyone who wasn't born with privilege and is thinking logically will identify with Commodus. Because we too are those who weren't born with gifts and had to watch those who were mog us.

I always laughed at those who thought Lucilla was some great noble heroine when all she wanted was for Maximus to become emperor so she could marry him and get herself into a win-win situation by fucking Chad AND having the power that came with being empress. She was just a typical foid who cared about nothing but her own selfish interests.
