A gaming pc is the best cope. I have consoles because I like collecting physical media but it's a good cope. I like emulating old games that are overpriced physically.
Kinda, as you can play old games at 1440p/4k with graphic mods. But for new games 95% of them are total shit. Only 5% of them are worth playing and you rarely need high end PC to run them.

spent £1.5k on a pc and £2.5k on an mx5 this year. Won't need any more expensive copes for the rest of my life, unless I decide to get into film photography later on.

Like Beyond Citadel, Gunner Heat PC, ENDER LILIES, BEAMNG, Dyson Sphere Program, Factorio, Neon White, Risk of Rain 2, Dusk, Empires of the Undergrowth, Fallen Aces, Astlibra, Tokyo Xtreme Racer (early access), Gates of Hell .
Last two games (plus Gunner Heat) require mid end GPU like rtx 3060 to run well, which is nowhere near high end and you can buy used rx 6600 xt for cheap with same power

He is just bored of playing video games man. Yeah a good pc will have better performance and you have access to more games but OP Just don't have the motivation to play games. The improvements that PC have over consoles might not be enough be get his gears going.
He can play anything that was not released on consoles, he can also mod games and expand on them. On consoles you only have what you were provided by console manufacturers and even mods are extremely curated.
the 5070 is worth it, anything more expensive isn't worth the money
Get lots of storage too, very crucial especially if you like modding games. VR is also a fantastic cope
