Many people who attempt to commit suicide via cyanide poisoning but survive tell stories of their bodies going in and out of consciousness as they desperately try to breathe. The cells in the body are affected gradually so you lose the ability to breathe slowly, and slowly, then you need to breathe, but you can't.
