When I was in 9th grade, I started developing bad ingrown toenails on my big toes. They would come and go, but by 10th grade it had worsened. They ended up becoming so bad that I couldn't sleep at night due to the throbbing of my toes, I couldn't wear shoes, or play any sports/surf as per usual. The doctor said it was necessary that I got surgery on both big toes as the infection could spread into my blood stream.

The first toe surgery I got was with this Egyptian doctor, on my left foot. His technique wasn't of the modern practice - he only clipped out the ingrown part of the toenail in the nail bed, and didn't put the filler in to prevent it from growing back. The nail now still gets ingrown, and has split into 2. So I have 2 toenails growing on the same toe.

The second toe surgery was with this Indian doctor, on my right foot. During the surgery, he put the anaesthetic into the nerve on accident, so I couldn't move my toe at all for 2 years after the surgery, and it was left completely numb, as well as the area around the toe. After the 3rd year only then was it close to be healed. But even then it still gets ingrown, same as with the other surgery on the other foot.

Both surgeries were supposed to be fully healed by 2 weeks, and mine was still bleeding like crazy after 2 months. And couldn't apply pressure on it for months either.

I also have to wear shoes that are bigger than usual, and in school this lead to the females making fun of my shoes during sport - it looked like clown shoes.

On the day of the first surgery, I had to go to school and was forced into carrying the PE equipment after class by the teacher. I told him about my toe and the surgery and that I shouldn't be applying pressure on it but he didn't care. That probably worsened it as well.

Also, we had to go back to the doctors numerous times as it wasn't healing correctly - and each time the Egyptian doctor would rip of the bandage so hard he would tear the scab off with it, repeating the healing process each time I would see him.

I've never had ingrown toenails; it must be excruciatingly painful.

草台班子, deserves to be sued for malpractice.

Holy brutal:feelsrope:. Ingrown toenails are one of my fears.

This is giga brutal. The problem with ingrown toenails is that they are a recurring issue. And it sounds like extra bad luck for getting such incompetent doctors.

I've given up treating my ingrown toenails. I've also given up the ability to run, but I won't need that. As long as I can still walk, I will live like this.

It's annoying it is still a recurring issue, the surgeries should have stopped it for life.

How did you treat it?

Try and leave your nails a bit longer, and wear shoes that have space. Other then that I think it's just genetics too

I'm supposed to go to the medical pedicure every few months to cut then ingrown toenails. But I can't be bothered, I don't care anymore.

You should keep going if it's still affecting you, surgery for it sucks.

Suicidefuel. This term is something I've gotta add to my list of humiliation rituals. From the smallest thing to everything else it's all broken. Nothing works, and there's no future.

I remember this being the case for me in highschool I would get puss from ingrown toenails and even a doctor had to take it out. Ever since I lost the weight however and became normal weight this stopped being a issue for me.
