Even after women got the right to vote and were able to technically work jobs, it was still the favor of man when it came to finding a wife. All the women did have the ability to work. They really couldn't since 1, women were socially discouraged from working since it viewed as unladylike. 2. Women weren't able to get into high positions of power since there wasn't any affirmative action. The policies created yet and everything was based off merits.And 3, woman who were quite literally too weak to work physically demanding jobs such as construction or law enforcement.
However, once we had created bullshit indoor secretarial jobs where women just typed bullshit all day was the beginning of the end. No longer will women beholden to men financially. They could legitimately take care of themselves relatively easily by just working some easy job that was physically on demanding. It was also a plus if they were able to sleep with their boss because then they have a direct pipeline to a high status male who will financially provide for them. This was truly the straw that broke the camel's back when it came to hypergamy and women's treatment within society.
