We are the prisoners. Our bodies are the chains. The internet and websites like this one allow us to see shadows of the outside world.
Now sometimes these shadows don't allow us to draw conclusions about the physical objects creating them or they might be downright misleading. But we all have different viewpoints inside the cave and together we can understand the nature of these objects, together we can understand reality.
In fact, exactly because we only see the shadows can we actually reach a deep understanding of the world. Because if we were outside and not chained in this dark cave, our senses would be overloaded with stimuli. And we would not be able to draw any conclusions in a rational and objective way.
