You are correct. The testing of psychotropic drugs is the only area of psychiatry where something close to actual experiments can be performed. That said, these experiments cannot be performed to very high standards because we lack instruments to measure the mental state of a patient. Instead, the psychiatrist has to ASK the patient who has taken (or not taken) the drug, questions like: "do you feel less depressed?". In physics, we do not ASK electrons what their spin is; we measure it.

The result is that experiments in psychiatry, even those about drugs, are always tainted with the biases of the experimenters (and the patients).

This is gold. In your Psychiatry experiment conclusion they are almost admitting that long term success of these treatment combinations is barely useable as data. Also, its their categorisation of the diagnosis itself which is wrong. Like I said, I know some practitioners in the field rather well, and I know how they think, where they start thinking, and where they stop thinking.

Most of this would count as the equivalent of an experiment, yes, but one in which all the parameters are wrong, the categories of diagnosis are just made up, and often change from practitioner to practitioner, and their conclusions are all wrong.
