I've always had this experience where people will hype me up as some kind of robotic genius, then when they find out I have the same IQ as them but without the social ability they completely lose interest in me.

Same, when people talk to me, they're expecting to meet a rainman type of genius but they just see an autistic dude who is the same as them intellectually but just has none of the good social traits they do. The worst is when they act all fascinated with me because I'm just as smart as them but my intelligence is all focused towards other things. Feels like they're mocking as some sort of subhuman retard (Which is how they see me)

I used to work in engineering where "intelligence" is lauded but in practice you work in teams so social ability trumps IQ every time

Nigga, self employed people have no protection from being fired by their clients. If your client thinks you’re “creepy” because they sense your autism they can fire you without reason. If you want to know how bad self employed consulting work is, just ask any self employed consultant how many clients fired them when they were young because the client didn’t want “a child representing their interests”.

Self employed work is probably the worst thing for a person with a social disability because you can’t claim discrimination if a client simply decides they are going to ditch you for somebody else. It’s damned retarded. And clients treat you like shit.

I'm lucky my job is not facing the public. I do work with customers but they are tradesman or technical people usually. Also my field has a reputation for weird or autistic people working in it so they usually don't hold it against you
