If I were alive in Europe when war broke out, I know I would have volunteered for one of the foreign SS legions.
I've read several non-fiction and autobiographies by Waffen-SS veterans of the eastern front, and it was quite simple:

1. Go into village.
2. Round up every male, female and child.
3. Separate the men - shoot the old and unfit men, send the young men back to Germany as factory slave labour
4. Shoot the ugly and older women, and kids
5. Rape the young attractive women, keep the choicest ones alive for a few days on campaign until you come to the next village
6. When you grow tired of them, you shoot them in the back of the head.

Sadly, it was only like this for rear area security and logistics units (and front line combat units who were assigned to anti-partisan/clearing operations)
