"Inside a Peruvian bus travelling down one of Lima’s highways Tuesday night, an unknown man attacked Eyvi Liset Agreda Marchena, 22, spraying her with gas before lighting her on fire.
The assailant was seated in the rear of the bus and was described as wearing an orange hooded sweatshirt and carrying a black backpack. He pulled a yogurt bottle from his bag and sprayed Agreda and set her aflame before jumping from the vehicle and disappearing. The white knight cuck bus driver quickly came to her rescue, dousing the flames with a fire extinguisher before she was transferred to a local hospital.
“We are treating the patient, Eyvi Liset Agreda Marchena, 22 years old, already after five hours she continues to suffer from serious burns...She is in shock right now and conscious… she has more than 60 percent of her body covered in second and third-degree burns,” Dr. Luis Bromley said, adding that she will be undergoing multiple surgeries Wednesday in an effort to keep her alive.
Outrage exploded across social media, with Ni Una Menos- Peru, an anti-violence organization for women’s rights, denouncing the attack as a case of gender violence and an act of “machismo,” while the Deputy Minister of Peruvian Women, Silvia Loli, called the attack an example of a “major national problem."
