I'm learning a bit of c++, (struggling to) while using different YouTube tutorials. I hope if I finish it the game might find success but I doubt it.

It is somewhat unique I feel. It's a survival fantasy game with a fairly original combat system and art style. Hopefully I have the intelligence to finish it, but I doubt it. So far I'm working on the world and making textures.

I'm happy for you. And what counts is the journey, not the destination.

sounds cool, I used to dable in C++ a couple years ago but never got too deep into it. Good luck with it hope it goes well for u

Hopefully you find success. The AAA gaming sphere has gotten very boring, but there are lots of cool indie games.

do u use some kind of game engine or something

What are you using? Grok? Unreal?

No. I'm not using ai entirely. I'm watching YouTube tutorials and simultaneously trying to learn c++. Unfortunately I barely have any time alone

Bruutal. Sounds like a long journey.

Unfortunately. I'll probably fail. I barely have any time alone. Life is miserable. At least it'll provide me with some coping mechanism

I believe in you

why c++ though, it's like the longest and crappiest route you could take to make a playable game

Use python it's better for making games and stuff

Let me know if you need some voice work done!

Unity has a fine doesn't it?
Prototype your game first to see if it works as a game at all, then think about selling it, that's how I would do it. Unity has some "free" tier, maybe not as generous as unreal

That is actually nice, man. Don't give up. What platforms will you release it on?

you talk like he's ever going to finish it, being a beginner in all departments and having only a vague idea of what he wants

Yeah, I'd gladly do voice acting for a game. Would be nice to be eternalized in a game of a fellow brocel.

I believe in him though. He speaks with conviction.

We all have been there. The dedication required to finish even a simpler 2d game can't be understated.

I'll follow your advice and make a demo for it. The combat system is going to be difficult to make as I have something very specific in mind and the game will fall apart without it.

I have a very explicit plan of what I want with the world, dungeons, and level design already drawn on paper. The issue is I'm a noob to programming and not the brightest.

If I manage to finish it it will be on PC.

I used to code when I was still going to school. I know what you are talking about, but don't demotivate a bro.

Motivate him.

Btw, I too want to make at least one video game all by myself in my liffetime.

Since I genuinely enjoy video games, I want to contribute something nice to the vast catalogue of video games.

I did some research on which platform is the easiest to develop for and according to other codercels it is apparently the xbox.

He's just being realistic.

I've made several prototypes of 2d games over the years, but you cant play them specifically because of what I said, too much work to get a fully fleshed out and working game that doesnt feel like a demo

but maybe it's just an aberration of mine and its not that difficult for someone actually talented, can't know for sure

There are guys on youtube who have made games for xbox, playstation and switch all by themselves.

If they can do it, so can we.

All one needs is time and dedication. Since I work full time I have little time, but I guess it could be a good cope.

In a few weeks, I'll share a demo for the game if it's done by then. It will be a simple demo. A square room with two enemies. The demo will focus on combat and enemy ai. I'll dm you if you want to try. Unfortunately, I have very little time to work on my PC so there's no guarantee it'll be done. @TooSomething
I'm cheating because I'm using a lot of unreal engine tutorials.

This is good. I would be happy to play it when its done.

It would be a cool if it could be the game of this forum you know like 4Chan and katawba shoja
It is a great thing to have created people like you here

That'd be cool. Let's see if I can actually get to finishing the demo. I get Thursdays off to be myself so hopefully I can start getting more involved then

Stuff I recommend for making videogames as a hobby, all fun and easy to use:
-GZDoom sourceport, due to way it's licensed you can make standalone game on it, tonne of documentation on ZDoom wiki (I can help with this one if anyone is interested)
-Roblox studio, although the engine is poorly optimised
-RPG maker, if you want to make some turn based (although latest release has some primitive action RPG script as free DLC(!)) or text adventure slop then it's your go to
-SHMUPS maker, for all the shoot em' up games
-Coppercube if you want to make some VERY simple 3D game

An important key to game development is having a passion and doing it with a purpose. If you don't truly want to make a game then it most likely will not turn out well. Enjoy the process, don't make it seem like some chore that you dread every day, take time off if you need to, just be consistent with it and it will get completed.

roblox studio carried by childhood

didn't you hate unreal engine

Yes. I do hate it.
But I'm a retard and I don't have the resources to make my own engine

Game development is kinda fun when you're just doing it as a side hobby, did it a bunch back in highschool

Good luck dude
