i choose to believe in God as a way to impose meaning and order on a seemingly indifferent universe. i believe in god because i have a belief in a higher moral authority that offers a counterbalance to human flaws and societal shortcomings. i believe in god because i don't want to neglect my spirituality and consciousness and i believe there is something more than the materialistic life we have, i choose to believe that we have genuine evil in this world and by proxy the only solution is pure good meaning god.

If there is a god then he isnt merciful and he isnt as goodhearted as people like to portray him

Firstly, Islamic theology maintains that God, or Allah in Arabic, possesses the attributes of ultimate mercy and benevolence, as encapsulated in the primary names Ar-Rahman (The Most Gracious) and Ar-Rahim (The Most Merciful), which are frequently mentioned in the Quran. From this perspective, human understandings of mercy and goodness are considered limited and imperfect, but God's attributes are absolute and perfect.

The issue of the Problem of Evil is often the foundation of the above statement, questioning how a merciful and good God could allow suffering and evil in the world. In Islam, this issue is addressed in several ways:

1. Purpose of Life: Islam teaches that life is a test and that both good and evil are part of this test (Quran 67:2). Human beings must choose their path, and this freedom to choose enables the possibility of evil. The existence of evil does not negate God's mercy; rather, it gives context to it as human beings are given guidance and the strength to overcome evil.

2. Divine Wisdom: Islamic teachings emphasize that God has wisdom beyond human comprehension (Quran 18:26). There is an assertion that events which may seem harsh or unmerciful from a human perspective may have a greater divine purpose or lead to a greater good that humans may not immediately understand.

3. Afterlife and Justice: Islam states that ultimate justice is not always dispensed in this world, but rather in the afterlife. The concept of life after death is integral to the Islamic understanding of God’s mercy and justice, where every individual will be accountable for their actions.

4. Trials and Suffering: In Islamic philosophy, suffering and trials are seen as means of spiritual growth and expiation of sins. Such experiences can lead to a deeper consciousness of God and are often considered a sign of God's interest in a person's spiritual elevation (Quran 2:286).

5. Existence of Good: The existence of good in the world, acts of kindness, beauty in nature, love, and human achievements are all considered signs of God’s mercy and goodness. The recognition of good is equally important when discussing the presence of evil.
