This year I’ve been going to the gym a lot. At first, I wore loose clothes because I wasn’t confident in my body. But lately, that changed. I worked hard, got stronger, started liking what I see in the mirror. So I began wearing leggings and a fitted top because they’re comfortable and because I like how my body looks now.
To improve my technique, I record my workouts. I prop my phone up and film my sets. And when I watched the videos later, I noticed something that honestly made my stomach drop: men constantly walk by and stare at my body when my back is turned. I didn’t even notice it in the moment. When I got home, I told my boyfriend, expecting us to laugh or talk about how rude and gross that behavior is. Instead, he said: "You’re provoking them by wearing tight clothes". That sentence made me furious.
Based boyfriend. Because anyone with half a brain could tell you this same logic about getting angry over being objectified for the way she dresses herself is equivalent to roasties BAWWWing after walking on the city streets and getting catcalled by randos.
