I'd 100% reccomend linux it's come a long way compared to the past. Open source in general has recieved a massive big improvement in the last couple of years 5-6 years ago linux was still just one big pile of shit really, its only really now just starting to become truly useable for most people

It's all a gradual process or a spectrum you can say, generally you should start with using Open source alternatives like the browser Firefox or stuff that won't need you to buy new hardware or delete your entire filesystem unless you are willing to go through with it.
It all depends how much effort and sacrificing convinence you're willing to put in, because using FOSS does have it's drawbacks too.
