The issue with eugenics is that if it was implemented, the human baseline would shift upwards, yet variation would remain.
Some people would still be valued more than others unless everyone was made to be identical/near identical in terms of net genetic quality
Eg., say the average height became 6'4". High by our standards, sure, but people wouldn't be evaluating others by our current standards in this hypothetical future. 6'4" would become just average, and heights like 6'0" would be seen as short.
The only way to fix this would be to severely restrict genetic variation, which is difficult due to the prevalence of mutation and genetic recombination.
It could be done with certain technologies or policies, but it would be difficult and unobtainable by conventional eugenics methods (just selecting the best members of society to breed).
With gene editing and such we can make encourage homogeneity to the point where diversity and mutations would be reduced to such a significant level

Exactly. That's what I meant by "it could be done with certain technologies", however, gene editing technology isn't at a point where every child born could reliably have vast swathes of their genome edited.
It would require a lot more technological advancement until this could actually be performed.

I'm ok with genetic variation as long as the inequality isn't too great. Some inequality is actually good. Moving the baseline upwards would eliminate a lot of suffering from disease and low ability.
