for a long time I had severe, painfully swollen red/purple cystic acne all over my face, which made me genuinely repulsive to look at. I religiously washed, cleansed, moisturized it etc every day, washed my pillow sheets, never touched my face, did literally everything in my power to try and improve it because it caused me so much pain physically and mentally. I'd frequently hear people say ignorant and insensitive shit like "just work on your skincare routine and it'll go away" and it made me so overwhelmingly fucking angry
I wasted so much time with that nonsense. if you search for advice on how to treat acne, most of what you'll hear is tailored towards normies who just have a zit or two.
"just try this spot treatment", "just drink more water", "just rub lemon juice on your face". if you have cystic acne, all of that shit is complete garbage. it's like putting a band-aid on a severed leg.
after I finally realized that all of the normie bro-science about acne is bullshit, I went to an actual medical professional about it and he straight up told me "yeah your face is fucked up, you're going to be deformed in 5 years from all the scarring if you don't get on accutane right now". to this day I consider it the best decision I have ever made and my only regret was that I didn't start earlier
I still have some scarring and discoloration but that's actually fairly easy to cover up. I still think it's total bullshit how I devoted so much time and effort in to my skin for nothing and people mocked me for it like it was a personal moral failure, while Chad can just sleep on a greasy ass pillow sheet that hasn't been washed in two months and wakes up with perfectly clear skin
