Actually there is a very strong piece of evidence to refute this claim, and the claim that Jesus was executed by mandate of the Sanhedrin rather than the Roman governorship. The very fact that Jesus was executed by way of crucifixion shows that he was executed for crimes of sedition against Roman authority. This is because crucifixion was a very particular punishment within the Roman punitive system, and was reserved specifically for crimes of sedition in order to make an example of the perpetrator in question.

If Jesus’ death had been ordered by the Sanhedrin rather than the Romans as you so claim, then he would have been stoned to death, as was the Judean custom. Jesus’ likely never uttered the line; ‘render unto Caser what is Caeser’s’ this line was fabricated with the intention of retroactively altering Jesus’ message, because after the Roman sacking of Jerusalem in 70CE it was imperative for the survival of Christianity that any anti-Roman sentiment be removed from the canon.
