Hum yeah... That's pretty much how Christianity started. Christianity was a philosophical offshoot of Greek thought, principally neo-Platonism. Ancient Greek philosophy was concerned with truth, meaning and morals, but mostly human happiness (eudemonia). This can be inferred from most texts and is often said plainly. Jesus and His miracles probably never happened in the way it is depicted, but they proved extremely useful symbolism to "round up" the Christian philosophy.
