The "love" of a dog comes because I gave it food but I would say the quality of it is much better than a woman's affection ( although it obviously can't supplement it ). A woman's love is based on your genetic worth whereas a dog's love is based on how you took care of it plus if you have been with a dog for long enough it will never leave you, whereas a woman is always looking at an opportunity to monkey branch. There are only two reasons why I care about animal welfare.

1) Public health

Anything living in human captivity shouldn't live in unsanitary conditions. That's how new diseases are created. I mean, in light of current events, this should be really fucking obvious.

2) Sustainability and food quality

If you're overfarming, that works out pretty badly in the long term. And I like my animals tasty, and sometimes mistreated animals are less tasty.

Otherwise I don't really care too much about animal welfare. I mean, I love foie gras.
