You managed the situation in a very good fashion. About aggressivity, from my experiences I saw they intervene whenever is obvious that you are the strongest, even against multiple people. However, also the reverse applies, but less frequently. I don't see a necessary correlation between aggressivity, but it's certainly a factor that can sway the outcome towards an intervention.
