Everytime I play an online game I get my eyes pressed into the back off my skull or lag ruins everything. There’s only been a few times I’ve enjoyed playing a online game but deep down I was miserable for the most part. Just a cheap distraction tbh

Fucking horrible at everything I do.

Not only that but it makes me more pissed and leads to me destroying shit like a toddler, even days afterwards I’ll still feel angry.

This. I was a very competitive FPS player through the 2010s, I dabbled in entry level pro cs and was in the 99th percentile for a few BR games, mostly cod warzone and fortnite. It feels like during covid when nobody had anything to do they all started grinding pvp games and completely changed the culture, and the trend never stopped. Now it's so bad that I have to constantly exert maximum effort just to hold my ground and keep up a good k/d and win ratio for whatever game I might try play, and that shit isn't fun. It's not even fun for the current best players, everyones stressed out and constanly raging because it's so exhausting to play like this. Over the last few years I've completely abandoned the FPS genre, I miss it sometimes but the gaming experience I enjoyed growing up DOES NOT EXIST anymore

Nope, that's the thing, people can't get any better. so many people are now scraping the skill ceiling doing everything they can to get a slight edge over one another that every game boils down to the same thing,sweaty tactics and running whatever the META is. It's a race that such a large chunk of people have now reached the finish line of, that there's dwindling diversity of skill level that is self perpetuating. The better players grind harder to catch up, and the lower level players opt out because it isn't enjoyable

fps has always been shit and a normie genre as well. how can a genre that boils down to point and shoot have any player retention? the least I require is some mass effect adjacent gameplay to enjoy shooters

There's something about PvP games that drains any fun you might have from the get go, maybe it's the ranking system pulling all of the tryhards to it, and the ease of access from f2p games like marvel rivals pulling all of the retards in. PvE multis are pretty good still, DRG is quite laid back even on the higher difficulties, and if you want challenge without the dangers of being mogged, all of the -tide games are nice.

I have no other examples of good online PvEs, most of the good stuff dies very quickly from lack of dev support and shitty match searching
