Today I went into the city for a while. Saw plenty of beautiful women, and for a moment I thought about talking to some of them. Then I remembered why I don't.
Every now and then I convince myself it might be different. It never is. The few times I've been foolish enough to try, I've ended up embarrassed and reminded of my place.
Today I kept walking.
Later, at a train station, I noticed a guy standing nearby. Strong LTN. Looked rough around the edges, maybe on drugs, maybe just ND. Hard to tell.
A while later, I saw him walk over to a woman sitting alone on a bench. I was too far away to hear what was being said, but I didn't need to.
The second he started talking, her expression changed. He sat down beside her and kept speaking, making a phone gesture with his hand as if trying to make conversation. (
)
She looked at him with a level of distaste that was impossible to miss. A few moments later, she got up and walked away.
He continued sitting there alone, as he likely will be forever.
Watching it from a distance felt familiar. I've seen that look before. The look people give when they've already decided what you are before you've finished speaking.
thank you bold man, for reminding me of our status in this world. It truly is our shared curse.
