inkwels would have a hard time as rulers or local warlords in the dark ages, they required the loyalty of their guard, the feudal lords/jewish moneylenders all which would get rid of you at one moment of weakness and subject you to the current imaginable most painful death. would be better off as a ruler during the late renaissance/age of absolutism where you had a standing army, religious authority and more centralised power at least. otherwise chad only.
even before the dark ages dudes like caligula who wanted all the normies to obey only lasted a bit more than a couple years and the ones who lasted a long time was because of insane paranoia or being an actual good ruler. during the actual dark ages it was even worse and you probably didnt have much control of your fate at all.
