My mom was pleased with how things turned out so I guess it was worth potentially risking my life for.

I've been training various martial arts and sparring regularly for almost 15 years and I'm gymmaxxed so she thinks no one can kick my ass. It never occurred to her the guy could pull out a knife or a gun or have friends ready to jump in.
I really wasn't afraid of a fight, I didn't get into his face and I was all respectful and making sure to give him a way to back off and not lose face. More likely scenario was I was going to say something stupid and come off as a sperg and it would haunt me to my grave. And whiteknighting is bad in and of itself even if everything went perfect.
