Growing up people always told me “when you get a car and a job when you’re 16 all the girls will want you”. Couldn’t have been further from the truth. I worked my ass off applying to hundreds of different places and then worked as many hours as I could to get a car. My only motivation was because I believed everyone saying girls would want me more. When I did buy my car, I was so happy. It was a piece of shit but it was fast so I thought girls would be impressed about how much money I make. If anything, girls talked to me even less somehow. I started getting made fun of at work by them. I don’t know why everyone thought telling me lies would make me feel better when all it ever ended up doing was destroying my mental health for years.
