I have one semester left of college and actually I am kind of looking forward to it. It's going to be a chill spring with cool classes now that all the hardest aspects are behind me. But I really don't want to continue education afterwards after weighing all the potential paths that would involve doing so.
Why even consider this, you might ask—why not start work right away? Well given my line of study (biochem), you can't really get a well-paying job without higher degrees. This is why college is a scam because in the modern day, college is only the beginning. It's not just "college degree => set for career" like they told us.
Honestly I am just burned out by the incessant academic effort applied in HS and college, and would be content just becoming a NEET. Society has given me no reason to be a productive citizen anyway, whether that's in the job market or in advanced education. I know my parents would not like this, but they have exerted too much control over my life as it is, and it would be good to teach them a lesson that I am not just some cattle that is going to keep chasing the hay dangled in front of it. I have no girlfriend, no friends, and they expect me to just think all this is normal. Well no more, not after the spring.
So I am curious to hear from some NEETs… how do you manage the finances? How do you sustain this lifestyle? Do you have at least a part-time job for a basic income? I have around 10k of my own money (need to double-check the exact figure, I am negligent with the online banking), so at least I would not be starting from nothing.
