It's not about gameplay, we're talking about the lore of the game. Many games have tall protags but they make them shorter in game because of what you said, so players can see more. But if you read the wiki about jimmy hopkins, he is 5'4 ft tall in lore/story. He is both short in game and canonically.

Also It's not only about the height, he has many attributes and personality traits that make him a good and memorable protag.
