Same here. Granted, when I'm out in public, I either give one word answers or I straight up just pretend not to speak English/Spanish.
I've had such shit luck with people to the point I rather have a language barrier than drama.

Good strategy. I also tend to be very quiet and avoiding talking to people saves you from getting people's insults, "joke" situations agaisnt you. Since then they can have more co-confidence to disrespect you.
