Media I really want the Animaniacs reboot to be good. But I just don't know.

Yes, I know Animaniacs and Freakazoid and everything else in that family is supposed to make commentary on the contemporary. They made funny observations about things that were going on at the time. But "Phones are a thing now and they weren't a thing back when we were on TV" isn't a clever or funny observation. And that tends to be the caveat of the reboot. If you're gonna riff on modern times, you have to act like you come from modern times. Not like you just got here from the 90s.

Thats really interesting

I didn't know there is a reboot . Do they keep the old voice actors?

Yes. But here's the thing, I don't think they were able to get back everyone. So not every character is back. Animaniacs I think used to employ every voice actor who was anybody in the 90s. But so far all I've heard from are Yakko, Wakko, Dot, and everyone Maurce LaMarche portrays. I've heard no word of Slappy or Skippy or Minerva Mink or Goodfeathers or Buttons or Mindy or Rita or Runt or Chicken Boo or Katie Ka-Boom or anyone else.

Know what? I think the reason this reboot is rubbing me the wrong way so far is because of the way I look back on Animaniacs. I don't like Animaniacs for how it riffed on the modern, I like Animaniacs for how it riffed on the 90s. That's why it's only well after it was cancelled that anyone has all this good stuff to say about it. Back when it was on TV it was just a competent, quality show. But when it sticks out in the memory, it's amazing.

I see, i also think the animation style is a bit off

the nostalgia pill is so brutal

I have bad memories of this show, because I used to watch it after school in early middle school, the worst period of my life.

For one thing Animaniacs were great for its songs. I didn't get its appeal neither as a kid nor when I grew older. Sketches were hit and miss really, there were times when I changed the channel the second I saw that damn hippos couple. It was always music/songs that kept me entertained enough.

Agree that this "someone from another age uses modern technology" trope is overused and doesn't even make sense in this context. I don't think even kids would find it funny, much less boomers who are presumably the target audience of the reboot.

Can u tell me smthng, I vividly rmb watching pinky n the brain but I hv at best vague memories of animaniacs

Imo it's like the Teen Titans Go reboot of Teen Titans.

Not as easy to watch regularly, depressing that it has reminders of the smartphone age and the blackpills when they do pop up are way over the top.
Even cartoon reboots have to incorporate how much things have changed culturally and the charm to them is gone.

Oh yeah, I don't see any Hip Hippos either.

And that's another thing, yes Animaniacs was renkowned for its music. In fact it was one of the most expensive shows on TV because of how choice that music is. But Richard Stone is no more. Is he key to capturing that magic that 90s WB cartoons had?

Imagine "Dot and Wakko use Tinder" episode. In the first minutes Dot gets matched with a chad hollywood producer with a (((certain))) name while Wakko gets nothing besides one gay indian janitor from a nearby cafeteria.

Was there ever a reboot that was as good as the original? I'm not trying to be sarcastic; I'm genuinely trying to figure out one. Maybe Futurama?

There's already going to be a Tinder episode. It's gonna be a Pinky and The Brain segment. See?

It won't be good. These reboots never are any "good" and I think maybe it's because they aren't inteded for us . I think they make these reboots for the next generation of children not necessarily to appeal to the people who watches these shows as kids that are no longer children.
