I'm not talking strictly about "art", but overall design - such as architecture, domestic equipment, cellphones, cars etc.
Analysing art-styles through various periods - every age has something unique - yet it was beatiful/nice, despite sometimes absurd & abstract patterns (for example, futurism, art deco, modernism, impressionism etc.). Even through our present times we got pretty good design (for example 80's & 90's kitch, 2000's frutiger aero, early post-modernist architecture).
But i think, something ugly happened in the early 2010's. Internet websites lost it's unique design & parametrisation (anyone remembers youtube custom channel pages?), newer version of windows stopped being as flexible in changing it's visuals, as earlier, graphics became flattened and soulless (fucking corporate memphis, spawned even in public trains & announcements), corporate logos & products started to flatten their logos and maximally simplify their packages to the point, that original products started to look like bootlegs
.
Even music, through years in pop radios there was a lot of various genres - especially synth & other electronical stuff. What happens now, when you listen to the radio? UMM OH YEAH BABY (TRAP BASS) UMMM OH YEAH BABY (TRAP BASS).
And what about architecture? Oh God, i hate it.
I remember when i was a child, an early post-modernistic building was still in fashion - and i remember back then new built housing estate was peak of beauty for me. Fantastic shapes, large windows (even with irregular sizes), lots of green, space, and good external walls colour choice.
What do we have now? Disgusting LOFT. LOFT - that resembles people's favorite place to live right now - their concentration camps... i mean workplaces. You tire yourself up 8-12h per day, and go back to your wagie cage, which looks like your favorite factory (iron unpainted bars included).
I'm tired. I want nice things back.
