These two religions would have been much more compatible for us, compared to say, Buddhism and Taoism. Modern Asian "religion" Is largely cultural only and based on Daoism, Buddhism, and other folk religions thrown into a blender.
The core belief of these religions, are individualist and nonviolent, and has little to enforce their religious teachings. The ultimate path to become a Buddhist, is to become a vegan and meditating all day in the temple while avoiding female all together; people complain about the unproductivity of 5 prayers for Muslims, but but I think this is even worse.
State Shinto would have been much more compatible for us. As much as it is artificial, it places embrace on the nation and unity. Temples were turned into training grounds, priests (monks?) were turned into war spiritual advisors, similarly to how Russian Orthodox priests are doing these days

What I'm emphasizing is, we are too individualist and non violent for our own good; while I do not support random violence, the reason rices are taken advantage of and especially vulnerable in the demographic level, is because we refuse to engage in practices such as honor killings, and our mess of a "religion", does not provide much guidance whatsoever.
In a way, I'm expressing what Hitler thought for his Germans.
