It's literally just a case of it being popular, keeps it popular, normies are just sheeple, they'll refuse to play a half decent game that isnt popular but they'll play a shit game like league just because its active, this is all stuff i've observed anecdotally.

Also not many good games release to dethrone it.

The league of legends TV show is really good though, miles and miles better than the game.

I don’t understand how mobas as a genre are still popular in the first place, my only guess is that most don’t require expensive hardware to run and are free. Dota matches drag on for so long but with league I can just play a couple of games once a month.
