I've always had to do it, sometimes I'd fantasize about a girl I was especially fond of and it'd help me sleep. If I don't do it, I very well may not be able to fall asleep as it is the only thing capable of lulling me into a sense of security long enough to knock me out, usually I pad a bunch of blankets together and fondle them ngl.

I hold my body pillow to sleep as well, but now mostly just because it's comfortable to me. I've learned to partially disassociate myself from my body's sensations as to better experience the the world within my own head.
