I don't think the purpose is even to be funny, its probably some sort of social ritual, it's this repetitive type of humor that's not funny or transgressive (too low IQ to articulate).

Even edgy, "misogynist" and "racist" accounts in xitter engage in it because they are normies irl.

I think it's a consequence of increased female presence in all spaces.
