What? Is a regular-ass entertaining movie with some decent plot-points and well-constructed characters who ain't full of themselves not enough? You script makers just can't help but go all numale on us with your "huehuehue *some reference to something popular* huehuehuehue *millionth time of breaking the fourth wall* huehuehuehue get it?". And it's always done with this really snarky tone, like "hey guys, we are acknowledging our movie within the movie, look how smart and better than those other older movies that don't hold up we are", yeah tough shit. Those other older, simpler movies actually stand the test of time precisely because of their lack of pop-culture jargon that may be lost to the public within time but no, you cunts are the real deal, right?

I dunno man. I miss when movies just did their thing instead of trying to pretend like being self-aware automatically made them brilliant.

Modern movies (especially capeshit) are the most SJW and soyest things in today's culture. I haven't been to the movie theater in almost 10 years. Quit movies, there's no point. They suck.

My tactic to combat this is to try and pick movies that have some level of academic literature written to review them (it is doubtless that you will stumble on some SJW-esque essays, but scholars tend to have a good eye for films with substance, hence all the writing done about older films...).
You may end up watching niche Polish films about mermaids, but hey. One must do what one must do.
