I think the appeal is just different and unique, like she's a voice generated robot that sings for a song everyone composed. I think no one has done that technology back then also the anime girl stuff.

For myself, it's simply because Miku is not a female. It is a robot here to sing songs and always spread cheer. It is true art that we all can create and find joy. It has the appearance and sound of a cute girl with green hair (Rydia, Terra and Miku are all lovely) while real women with green hair are repulsive.

Same, can't say I am a hardcore vocaloid listener now but she was designed very generic to be mass marketed.

On of my favorite songs staring miku though. I saw this live at the mikuexpo concert.

There is a couple more I like but since Miku gets so much use by artists its why she gets so many good songs.

My favorite song of all time is Meltdown by iroha, pretty much about self hate and killing yourself. The art is beautiful.
