1. 2018 potential signups may have got spooked because of Alek attack and decided not to register
2. 2018 had many notorious fakecels.

I'm not exactly sure, I was more of a braincels person and didn't lurk on co that much. Back then incels subreddits would stay unbanned for a while, now they get instantly banned so I decided to come here.
I think the subreddits had more users bc the site is more mainstream.
