I could never enjoy movies as a child. Whenever they played sad music when a character died I viewed it as the emotional equivalent of a laugh track and cringed. I started noticing how movies would dehumanize men and treat their deaths as jokes while presenting the deaths of women and children as something grave. As such these simple tricks never affected me. I saw them for what they were... Cheap and dull.
