People don't change that suddenly, if the person is abusive then they already showed signs of being abusive from the beginning
Personality is something practically genetic or built in childhood, at most you assume some styles but they are just like clothes for an already defined body.
No one enters into a relationship with a person and treats themselves as if they have no responsibility for it, you do, to be more direct, you are a masochist and are attracted to people who cause you pain.
