Serious I cannot figure out how Youtubers make money?

It just doesn't make sense. Some of them spend mega-bucks which would mean they have to earn hundreds of thousands dollars or more a year...but the youtube structure simply doesn't offer that kinda payout. Esp relative to 10 years ago.

Thoughts or answers?

anyway...even with patreon, donations, etc. IT DOES NOT COMPUTE unless some individuals are sponsoring them bigtime, they are already famous with a fan base, or they are the basic hot white chick that lives with her parents...those are the only people who seem to legitimately make money. Nerds in Lambos??? I don't get it.
