There are all sorts of strategies and ideas for investing in cards.

One guy I read his post on youtube he got into making money on magic cards. He claimed since he started 8 months ago he turned $500 into $3,000. It seemed believable.

It reminded me of guys here who have given up on making money, which I understand completely why they have... but sometimes there are ways to make money. Maybe that guy can turn $3,000 into $10,000 over the next year.

Still wonder how much I lost by throwing away my collection years ago

I have been doing more reading about investing in mtg. And thinking about it, like looking on tcgplayer looking at prices. And looking at websites that show all the cards in a set, including the variants.

So when doing anything you have to first figure out the basic principles. Then build with logic from there step by step of logic. So what determines the price of magic cards. Supply vs. demand. The price itself effects demand. Ok so what we need are cards that have low supply, but which have demand and might have higher demand in the future.

Calculating rarity. Take a type of foil card in a set that are 'chase cards'. Sometimes mtg will have like 1 of these cards per 3 collectors boxes. Each collectors box has 12 collectors packs. And say for the sake of argument 200,000 of the collector boxes were sold.

Therefore we can estimate there is ~70,000 of those individual cards. And if there are 20 different cards in that special type of foil in that set.. then 70,000/ 20 = 3,500 of each card (assuming equal randomness among those 20 cards). Some of the cards are never opened like just stay in sealed boxes people are hoarding. Or cards are thrown out/lost/damaged.

He made a cool $2,500 in 8 months?
That's $73.50 per week. Better than a slap in the face, but I wouldn't give up my day job if I was you.

(I guess if you are neeting that would seem like a decent financial shot in the arm... you could even buy a new bottle to piss in?)

I'm not sure he didn't say. But I was imagining him as a Neet. Thing with business like this is if he can turn $500 into $3,000 in 8 months. Can he turn $3,000 into $18,000 in the next 8 months. And then $18,000 to $108,000.

Thats the beauty of businesses there is no limit, even though you might have to start sadly small.
