It's easy to overlook it, both because it's uncomfortable and because of the civilized veil most people live under. But we are nothing but glorified chimps. People will act according to strong emotions and biological imperatives over rationality, integrity, ideals, morals, religious tenets and such 99.9% of the time. I'd dare say 100% if push really comes to shove.
It's all a brutal biological war, it has always been, it's just that it's more complicated, subtle and disguised now compared to the far past.
Things like morality and justice only exist abstractly in people's heads. They're pipe dreams humans wish existed, but don't, like the Garden of Eden or Shangri-la. Morality is different in different places and even in a given place, it will change every couple of decades or so. The most ridiculous part? Most people act as if the particular moral standard of their particular place and time is the perfect, absolutely correct one and all thousands of others are wrong and absurd. You can't make this shit up. As for justice, all human attempts to create it only cause even more injustice.
