It's actually surprising how little direct contact there had been between Americans and the Japanese before, despite their countries being so close and both of them being such large economies. Well, now that there will be a lot of contact between them, what position will the Japanese have now that Anglo discourse is going to overtake their political and ideological scene, as it always does?

Honestly, over time I'm getting more sceptical of takes like these. Even in anime and manga, where the characters can be whatever their authors want, characters who are actually meant to be white foreigners rather than just looking like that due to the art style are rare. All the popular music there is local, and their movies and dramas aren't exactly brimming with foreigners or foreign settings either. They have a lot of foreign-inspired games, art and other media, but they create a lot of media in general (I made a thread pointing out that, along with China, they've apparently overtaken the US in amount of movies annually produced.) so it's still just a small amount of the total.

I think why they seem so white-worshipping and obsessed with the West is mostly because of a few factors/selection effects. They were the only frame of reference for a long time, since no other non-whites' culture has been leaking into the West until relatively recently, and even now they are the main source of non-Western memes and media in the West by far, so it couldn't really be compared to others. Lots of their games like the ones you've mentioned would, before the internet, only make their way into the West as official exports or through piracy, and as products meant for exports would already be different from the average available in Japan itself. Apart from that, it could still be that the stuff where Western influences are prevalent, such as the isekai litRPG slop LNs and manga, are more likely to have Westerners exposed to them than other works.

For what it's worth, since I've never been in that country and he was, I wouldn't go as far as Bruno Maçães did and claim that there's no American cultural influence in Japan, though he admitted that European one is, but it's definitely not as wild as a lot of people think.

It's already a take you often see online, and AFAIK, even sociologists in EA countries sometimes buy into that to gain victim points in the area of post-colonial studies about oppression and power dynamics and such (which is why they don't need to be given that).
