There's a reason why experts have created these operating systems.
First and foremost, nobody knows what nation states are truly capable of. Let's imagine there exists an exploit that leaks your IP: If you are using just Tor Browser, you've been burned. If you are using Whonix/Qubes, you are still in the game as they would need another exploit that breaks out of your virtual machine. Security by isolation provides an extra layer of protection.
Security by isolation (Whonix/Qubes) can also prevent silly mistakes like if you confuse the Tor Browser window you have opened with the Chrome browser window you have opened, and start doing your illegal activities in your Chrome window.
You are right that most people get burned for being sloppy and tainting their real identity with their Internet identity.

As far as I have ever seen or been aware of Tor is absolutely useless unless you are in one of the following conditions:
- Living in a country where political dissidence is punishable and you are posting on controversial websites - valid use to stay out of a shithole jail and stay alive.
- Buying and selling drugs online - stupid as fuck. The only people who abuse drugs are desperate losers who can't live comfortably in their own skin and are trying to cope. Lots of Tor marketplaces have been busted.
- Downloading and/or uploading child porn - again stupid as fuck. In my opinion, there is no sexual orientation or sexual gratification that is worth risking 20+ years in prison for some stupid video/image files. Is any type of sex drive worth throwing your life away over?
Also, if you run a Tor Node, you are at constant risk of being raided for stuff other people are doing on the network when it points back to your house.
I intentionally keep Tor off all my systems.

That's not exactly true. We do generally know what they're capable of based on who they and can't bust online and how they do and don't go about doing it. I've lived on 4chan/PSL/incel sites for over a decade now so I've watched all the public busts of Tor criminals that have been published in the news over the past 10-12 years. In order to run these people through court, they must at least partly explain how the busts were performed. If the FBI has the capacity to directly trace IPs of users off Tor, they're not using it to break down the massive drug or child porn operations on Tor, since none of the busts have been run this way.
And I am skeptical that if they had the capacity they wouldn't be using it.
It is THEORETICALLY possible the CIA has some greater capacity and is not publicizing it since it's only being used on higher level ie. terrorist threat operations. If so, they wouldn't want the Feds using it on standard drug/CP ops because it would expose their capacity.
But even if this was this case, it would further imply that they would never use it on a vague threat on a web forum either, since unlike terrorism, that would again have to go through the courts and they'd have to share their methods.

I'm just saying there is no evidence out there from the existing ops that have been run that show Tor can directly be compromised without an error on the behalf of the user.

I haven't seen that. There's never any explanation at the start, but by the time it gets to court, some explanation always comes out, because it's a necessary part of the "fair trial" process. ie. They must prove in a court of law that the defendant is the person that did the illegal thing on Tor. To do that they have to share some aspect of their methodology.
In every case it's been an exploit of the person's habits, real life police work, or a Java exploit.
If they have the capacity to break Tor, they're reserving it for operations where they don't have to go to court. ie. Spying and/or terrorism.

There is a world of difference between spy/terrorism investigations and investigating minor civilian crimes online like making threats, etc. in terms of what burden there is in court to expose their techniques.
I can't argue that parallel construction isn't the case, because there's no way to know that. But for example, one of the biggest CP busts on Tor was legitimately a Java exploit and this became very well publicized during the court proceedings. Similarly, the way they brought down Silk Road and some of the related drug marketplaces subsequently was also well publicized during the court proceedings, and they have involved human errors and using online detective work to match identities from off of Tor.
As I said, if they have a greater capacity to break through Tor, they're keeping it secret for more important purposes. There has been no obvious evidence of parallel construction, and if they have the capacity to do more on Tor, they're seriously holding back, because from what I am generally aware, Tor is still a festering den of crime and they haven't been ramping up their assault on it at all.
Yes it's possible that would be the case but only because of the current AoC laws. Because of the current laws, these girls haven't been hit on every day for the past 3 years of their lives, so they aren't used to the attention and aren't used to rejecting men.
