I've had them for years and I look giga subhuman. I sleep just fine, it's not caused by that.

Dark circles under the eyes are one of those annoying things with a lot of possible causes, so the fix really depends on why you have them. Here's a no-bullshit breakdown:

First: Identify the Cause

  1. Genetics – If your parents have them, you probably will too. Harder to fix completely.
  2. Lack of sleep – Classic reason. Leads to paler skin and more visible blood vessels.
  3. Thin skin or hollow tear troughs – Makes veins or shadowing more visible.
  4. Allergies or rubbing your eyes – Inflammation and broken capillaries can darken the area.
  5. Pigmentation – Common in people with darker skin tones; caused by excess melanin.
  6. Dehydration / Poor diet / Smoking – Bad lifestyle = worse skin.
  7. Aging – Skin gets thinner and saggier over time.

Fixes Based on the Cause

Lifestyle & Health Fixes (Basic but often overlooked)

  • Sleep: 7–9 hours a night. Non-negotiable.
  • Hydration: Drink more water. Less salt, less alcohol.
  • Diet: More iron, vitamin K, C, and antioxidants. Think: leafy greens, citrus, berries, etc.
  • Quit smoking: It wrecks your skin. Period.
  • Cold compress: Shrinks blood vessels temporarily = less darkness.

Medical & Skincare Options

  • Retinol cream: Boosts collagen, thickens skin over time. Use with care.
  • Caffeine eye cream: Reduces puffiness and dark blood vessels.
  • Vitamin C serum: Helps lighten pigmentation and strengthen skin.
  • Chemical peels / laser: For pigmentation-heavy cases (see a dermatologist).
  • Filler: If you have deep tear troughs, a dermal filler can reduce shadows (lasts 6–12 months).
  • Allergy treatment: Antihistamines or fixing sinus issues can help if allergies are the cause.

⚠️ What Doesn’t Work (or only a bit)

  • Most over-the-counter creams: Minor effect at best, especially if you don’t address the root cause.
  • Cucumbers and tea bags: Feels nice, but results are usually temporary or minimal.
  • Covering it up forever: Concealer works short-term, but that’s maintenance, not a fix.

I don't think that I've always had them though, they started appearing when I was around 23

Its caused by recessed orbitals you need fillers or in really bad cases surgery

Don't stress, eat a perfect diet, get a ton of sunlight.

U have tear trough deformities like my self only surgery or injections will help

Sometimes it's because there's not enough fat/collagen in your face. I think this is my issue because I've tried numerous things and it still looks bad.
Also I have runners face (look it up) and I've looked at myself in the mirror on a treadmill and I can see why my dark circles are bad

you can't. You just don't have the bones to hold your eyes.

It's a sub 5 trait? I notice that a lot of curries have dark circles, even kids do.

It’s genetic. Kids in elementary used to ask me why i had them. I used to say I had baseballs thrown at both my eyes jfl

yea, I have them ever since I was a child

I didn't always have them, they started appearing in my early 20s.
idk then, but I am sure that you're gonna need a surgical treatment for a permanent cure.

To thicken the skin rub comphrey (Symphytum officinale) leaf juice on it. &/Or eat a lot of it....

however, its a blood thickener too.

Usually genetic or bad diet

Mine don't look as bad as that yet but I'm 25, they will get worse as I age.
Congratulations bro.

You mog someone!
